Neptune is the furthest planet from the Sun, and it takes almost 165 Earth years to complete one orbit.

Neptune was discovered through a mathematical prediction, before it was observed. Slight deviations in the orbit of Uranus suggested another planet should be present.

Neptune is similar in composition to its neighbour Uranus, but shows an active and visible weather system. In 1989, when this image was taken by Voyager 2, a large storm was raging.
