Conference Venue

The main conference venue will be Portsmouth Guildhall which is located at Guildhall Square, Portsmouth, Hampshire PO1 2AB. Please come here for registration we will be open from 8.30am onwards on Monday 23rd June 2014.

This year we will have both PhD student and postdoc poster prizes.
Oxford University Press and the Royal Astronomical Society will sponsor the best PhD student poster.
Winton Capital will sponsor the best postdoc poster.
In each case the winner will receive £350 and the runner up will receive £150.

More practical information will be added to this page in due course, e.g. internet access, talks/posters.

Posters

The maximum Poster size we can accommodate is A0 Portrait. This is the size we recommend.

All Posters will be displayed in the main Auditorium where the plenary sessions are taking place as well as coffee and lunch.

Every poster will be up for two days to correspond with the parallel session it corresponds with.

When delegates arrive at NAM2014 they will be instructed at Registration where their Poster can be displayed. Delegates must also collect a coloured sticker from the registration area which will need to be displayed with their Poster. The colour will signify to the judges either PHD or Post Doc as there will be two Poster prizes at NAM2014.

We do have a printing service available to delegates who wish to print their poster at NAM2014. You must save your poster in a PDF format onto a USB. For further details and prices please click here

Please note if you are not attending NAM2014 and have not registered you can not display your poster.

Cloakroom Facilities

We will be offering a manned cloakroom Monday- Thursday during NAM20104. This will be available from 8.30am - 18.30pm in the basement of Portsmouth Guildhall.

Internet and Wi-Fi
All buildings used for NAM2014 should have wi-fi. At Guildhall, we have a special network (NAM2014) which delegates can connect to. A password to this network will be on your name badge and on the noticeboard at registration, and will also be displayed on slide announcements in the main auditorium. Please be aware that we have not tested this network with the expected volume of people attending NAM2014, so there remains some risk of slow performance, although we have been re-assured the system should be capable of handling over 1000 devices at a time. We apologise in advance if there are any issues with Guildhall wi-fi and would suggest delegates bring a back-up if internet connectivity is important for you in Guildhall.

In Park and King Henry buildings (parallel sessions) as well as university residences, we will use the existing University of Portsmouth eduroam service and expect many delegates will have login details already from their home institutions. If not, please come to the IT desk at registration in Guildhall and we will provide a temporary username and password for the week.

If you have any technical problems, please see any NAM volunteer (in a purple t-shirt and/or orange lanyard) who can find help for you. Or just come to the IT desk in Guildhall.

Catering

All lunch and coffee breaks will be in the main auditorium at Guildhall. Refreshments will available at 8:30am every morning. Further coffee breaks times will vary throughout the week so please see the week schedule for timings.
For Lunch time, we provide a “brown bag lunch” you can eat on the go containing a sandwich, crisps, fruit, chocolate bar and bottle of water (vegetarian options will be available). Please collect your lunch bag before attending any of the lunch-time activities, or enjoy lunch in, or around, Guildhall e.g. on the steps on the great hall watching Wimbledon on the big screen, or nearby Victoria Park. Please dispose of your rubbish responsibly, thank you.

If you have requested in advance any specific dietary requirements (other than vegetarian) please go to the Harlequin room in Guildhall to collect your lunch.

This catering is provided free as part of your delegate fee.

UK Cosmology Delegates
Only for UK Cosmology delegates
Please come directly to Park Building 1.23 to register first to gain access to Guildhall. Please note that the main NAM registration desk at Guildhall does not offer registration for UK cosmo participants. Registration is open during 8.30-9.00 for those who would like to attend the plenary talk by Sarah Bridle. We reopen registration 10.00-10.30 in Park Building 1.23.

Coffee and lunch will be provide in Guildhall. Again you will be requested to show your name badges to enter Guildhall.

Both buildings are a few minutes walk from Portsmouth & Southsea station and it should be fairly easy to find them. You will probably need to use a side access of Park Building to enter 1.23. It will be well signposted. A map is available here.

For those who will give a talk, please make sure that you save your presentation on a USB stick as a pdf file. Please hand it to Kazuya Koyama or a chair of your session during the break before your talk. Alternatively, you can send your presentation file by e-mail to Kazuya Koyama (Kazuya.Koyama@port.ac.uk) by 5.00pm on Monday. Please note that we will have to be strict about time limit. Your time allocation includes questions (a 15 minutes talk includes 3 minutes of questions).
